Narrative: Join me for five fun paddle trips near Florence, OR, from Mon. Aug. 7 - Wed., Aug. 9. Each trip meets the OOPS Level 1 parameters, so for ease, I’m going to post this as "one trip.” NOTE: This is not a club “Event”; each registrant will need to make their own camping or lodging arrangements. Please sign up only if you’re able to join us Monday through Wednesday. If the trip doesn’t fill, I’ll put out the word for day-trippers to join us.
Each of these trips 5 has its own unique characteristics. Following is the entire line-up all 5 trips. I’ll send more detailed information regarding launch sites & times, etc. to everyone who signs up. Monday afternoon: Following lunch at Bender Landing County Park, head upstream with the incoming tide for a two-and-a-half hour round-trip paddle on this narrow north arm of the Siuslaw River. We’ll turn around when the tide turns, around 2 p.m. [Optional trip: it’s fine to sign-up if you can’t make this one afternoon trip.]
Monday evening: 6:30 p.m. launch at Cleawox Lake in Jessie Honeyman State Park. One & a half hour three-mile round-trip up the east arm. Dunes on one side, coastal woodlands on the other. Followed by a campfire in one of our campsites. (Note: This is the trip which is detailed below.) Tuesday morning: Siltcoos Canoe Trail; six miles round-trip, from Siltcoos Lake through a short river to the beach. We'll pass by boat houses, forest, and sand dunes. On the way, we'll cross over a fun portage. http://traveloregon.com/trip-ideas/grants-getaways/siltcoos-river-canoe-trail/ Tuesday evening: Twilight trip on Woahink Lake, launching about an hour before sunset and returning just as twilight ends. Full-moon trip. Relaxing and pretty. Time for another campfire afterwards. Wednesday: Break camp (or check out of your room) and drive one hour north to Beaver Creek for a peaceful six-mile round-trip meander through twists and turns as we head east to where the creek narrows; the trip also includes a five-minute paddle heading west from the launch to the beach! Lunch break at Heceta Head Lighthouse halfway up the coast between Florence and Beaver Creek (near Newport).
