Activity Title: Paddler Development Workshop Date of Activity: 3/25/2017 Narrative: While a strong forward stroke and effortless maneuvering are important skills to master, there are many additional skills in the toolbox of a well-rounded Pacific Northwest paddler. Please join us for a day of lectures and exercises to help you learn more about: planning a personal or OOPS trip, planning for the appropriate conditions, assessing risk, recognizing medical issues, avoiding legal issues, managing incidents or groups, on-water navigation, and being a good leader. Although part of the trip organizer training/refresh program, this workshop should also be useful to any paddler looking to learn more about our sport. Please read the OOPS Activity Policy before attending this workshop. Please bring with you a nautical chart containing interesting features, a hand compass, parallel rulers and dividers (if you have them), a paper or downloaded copy of Chart 1, your laptop computer, and a throw bag if you have one. This workshop will happen in a classroom – there is no reason to bring a boat with you or dress for the water. No food is allowed in the classroom – we will be eating lunch elsewhere (whether you bring or buy is up to you). A folding chair might be useful if the weather allows us to eat outside.
