If OOPS members every wanted to know what it’s like to sea kayak in Japan, or simply travel in Japan, March 13 will be an opportunity to find out more. Japan is more than cosplay and sushi, it is also a land of 6000 islands and 6000 miles of coastline. Seems like a natural place to paddle and there are great professional guides there who know the best places to go, safely. The hospitality alone is above and beyond.
On March 13, from 7-9 PM, I will be giving a 2-hour presentation on the several places I have paddled and traveled in Japan, including my favorite place to paddle, the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Nishiizu, a UNESCO Global Geopark (https://english.izugeopark.org/). Other places include the Sanriku Coast in northeast Japan where the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami happened, the Oki Islands in the Sea of Japan, also a UNESCO Global Geopark (http://www.oki-geopark.jp/en/), and Shiraishi Island in the Seto Inland Sea. Travel, and sea kayaking, in Japan can be very affordable with daily costs no more and, if you know how to do it, less than in the US for guides and gear rental. . And, you can drink the tap water anywhere, without regret. I’ve traveled there over 20 times since 1990.
Each person attending this presentation will also receive a multi-page handout filled with internet links and travel/behavior tips for visiting Japan.
