About Me
I grew up in Beaverton and Eugene. My in-his-90's Dad still lives in Sunset. I visit him every 8 to 10 weeks and I bring boats and gear most of those trips to enjoy the sea and rivers near Portland.

I have 47 years ocean and river kayak and canoe experience. I am a former wild and scenic wilderness river ranger, Voyageur Outward Bound kayak and canoe instructor, program manager and safety evaluator. I sea kayak guided several seasons for Laughing Bird Adventures in Belize and Honduras. Formerly Class V, now active Class IV, white water and open ocean paddler. I am an avid multi-week expedition participant on ocean, rivers and lakes; always planning the next adventure.

I have paddled on the Cal, BC, Oregon and Washington coasts and bays since 1977. Currently I am paddling the west coast of the USA as a series of day trips. I'm mostly "done" with Washington and Oregon. All paddling has been solo so far, but I welcome experienced partners to the fun.

I carry a sea kayak on my camper all winter to paddle places like Lake Mead, Lake Powell, Lake Havasu, the Colorado River upstream from Lee's Ferry and downstream from Hoover Dam all the way to Yuma, and the Sea of Cortez. I also have some secret spots in SF Bay and along the NoCal coast that I visit most winters.

I enjoy ocean, river and flat water paddling in almost any circumstance, especially in the company of fun-loving, safety-minded folks. I enjoying coaching others and sharing whatever I know that is useful to others.

I will help any OOPS member, anytime that is convenient for all concerned, learn how to roll their kayak. It is an essential skill that I enjoy teaching. Let's roll!
