Dispersed Camping Cascade Lakes:  I will not be in the State Park Monday and Tuesday nights.  I have opted to primitive camp on the shore of Sparks Lake both nights to minimize my drive time.  I will join up with you guys on Tuesday morning at the put in.  After our Hosmer Lake paddle I will relocate to the state park with the group. Unfortunately I’ll miss the potlucks.  Dispersed/Primitive camping is where a hammock really shines,  I will save a couple of trees in case any of you care to join me.  Marty

Hello fellow and sister Cascade Lakes paddlers,

A couple things to consider adding to your packing list:  bug spray and immersion wear.

My sister-in-law, who lives near Sunriver, reports that the mosquitoes are out at the high elevations.  It's anyone's guess how they'll be where we're paddling, but you may want to bring along some insect repellent.

Warm air, cold water--the bane of all paddlers!

Air temps will be warm, but water temps may be cool or even cold.  If you have hydroskin, any variation of wetsuit (farmer john, shorty, top, bottom), please bring it along.  Some folks may be more comfortable in a drysuit.  We can check conditions when we get there and people can choose what's best for them.  OOPS emphasizes FUN and SAFETY.  Especially with warm air temps and perhaps minimal immersion wear, let's diligently do the other things that will keep us safe:  paddle in pods (I cannot emphasize this enough!), paddle close to shore where practical, and of course, wear your PFD snugly fitted.

The weather forecast is still looking good; not quite as hot as predicted earlier, which is probably a good thing!  Chance of showers Monday AFTERNOON.  See you soon!

P.S.  Not sure of the potluck time.  Shall we shoot for 6 p.m.?

    More on Firewood

I would be able to have firewood available for pickup throughout the weekend and Monday. If you would like to swing by on your way out of town to fill empty spots with firewood, I can arrange for something to be available for you. send an email or phone call.

I'm located near the Hawthorne district in Portland, 33rd ave.

I am the lucky winner of the last minute opening for this trip since Jon McDermott had to cancel. I will be in campsite 117 and at this point, will be by myself so I will have space to share. I will bring my bike, boat, hammock, tent and a stock of bug-free firewod. I am also going to be doing yoga each morning and can lead a beginner class if anyone is interested - I'm thinking before breakfast but after a few cups of coffee, lets not be ridiculous here.  I plan to arrive Monday early afternoon for set up and possibly a bike ride. Thanks to Joe, Patti, Marty, Chris and Bob for really selling this trip, I am really looking forward to seeing you guys again and meeting everyone else and enjoying what I would guess is unbelievably gorgeous scenery. Have a great weekend and see you next week!

I have an UNENDING supply of FIREWOOD

Absolutely bug free. It comes from my son's carpentry shop. It's not treated. Sepele scraps, similar to mahogany, in one foot sections.

If you have room for firewood and can bring some for the campfires, please let me know (mark.niemannross@gmail.com) and we'll arrange for a pickup.
